Police Investigate Summer 2009 Muggings in Lincoln Park

The Chicago Police Department is continuing to investigate a string of violent attacks that occurred last summer.  Four muggings took place between July 30 and Aug. 4 in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.

The victims were young men in their early to mid twenties.  Each of them were walking alone and approached by their attackers from behind.

According to police, the muggers demanded the men’s wallets and then “savagely” beat them in the head and face.  Two of the victims were hospitalized.

The first two muggings occurred within minutes of each other in the early morning of July 30.  Two more attacks took place between 3 and 3:36 am on Aug. 1.

The victim of the first attack that took place that morning identified an arrestee in a physical lineup.  The suspect was later released due to lack of evidence.

Later that week, on Aug. 4, another man was mugged near the intersection of West Fullerton Parkway and Canon Drives.  The victim fought off his attackers with a bike lock.

An attack in Boystown and another on West Deming Place, occurred within days of the previous incidents.  Police have yet to determine a connection between any of the cases.
